Well written, but where is it going?

I feel like I'm being a little skeptical because this is a first look, but I feel like this is a sort of well written, fluid, round-a-bout that is not taking us anywhere fast as readers. The story felt like it wasn't flowing as quickly as the writing was, so I'm curious to see where it goes from here.

The cover is pretty, though :)
