This book opens with a disaster: a party of drunken misbehavior and the hangover of mistakes. Evan and Shosh have made mistakes, but foreshadowing allows us to pre-forgive them because there is clearly something in each of their histories that forced them to err.
Their connection thus far is mysterious. Throw in the flashback to 1832 in Paris and I am ultimately intrigued.
