The summer setting of this book served as a good allegory for growing up and coping with challenges in life. This novel had a terrific cast of characters, was subtly funny, and had just the right amount of mysteries to keep the plot moving.

The entire book was a rollercoaster ride for our main character. Problems Zack faces are highly relatable. In addition to attempting to be the greatest team leader he can be while juggling his parents' divorce, he is also defending a friend. He is taking many actions that he is aware are not ideal but believes are required in order to accomplish these goals.

Zack wasn't quite what I expected him to be. He was an odd mixture of a shy teenager who just wanted to fit in and a cocky jock. It required a moment for It took me some time to gain a handle on his mentality and character, which was good, but I would have preferred to know it sooner. Chip's personality was a little simpler to understand. He was kind and concentrated on his profession and future plans.
Buuuut he was a little boring, if we're being honest.

The romance was fine, but I didn't feel loads of chemistry between Zack and Chip. I think this goes back to their personalities and the problems I had with them.

Overall, great summer vibes and queer rep, but not the best or most entertaining story. This wouldn't be at the top of my list of recommendations, but I didn't hate it.
