This is a very cute, fun YA summer read that I think many readers will enjoy. I really appreciated that this story centers a gay relationship, but there’s little to no homophobia in the plot — that feels increasingly rare, these days, in both fiction and life.

Zack admittedly took a while to grow on me. I found the mix of cocky jock but shy young adult to be a little hard to gel together at first. I also didn’t completely understand why he took the blame for someone else, particularly when the consequences kept stacking up. I get that it’s the premise of the story, but it was frustrating that he didn’t come clean with the truth earlier.

Those quibbles aside, I found the writing to be a nice balance between accessible and voicey. The romance was cute and grew on me quickly, making it easy to get invested in the story and root for the characters through everything.
