I Like Me Better tells the story of Zach, a rising high school senior and future soccer team captain who sees his dreams of a perfect summer disappear when he takes the blame for a nasty prank he didn't pull in order to stay in his teammates' good graces. While sentenced to community service, he befriends Chip, space nerd and dolphin whisperer, and struggles with figuring out what he really wants - from his burgeoning relationship with Chip, his last year in high school, and ultimately his future.

I really enjoyed this book - it was a fun, fast read that got me perfectly in the summer mood. I love characters who make mistakes and then learn from them, especially in books targeted at younger readers; we watch Zack put his foot in his mouth or make the wrong decision and then figure out how to make things right. Seeing a queer high school romance portrayed as the sweet, happy thing it is was just the cherry on top.

If you're looking for a low-stakes beach read romance, this is the book for you!
