I have read previous YA fiction by Gayle Forman, so I had high hopes for this story. However, I wasn't a big fan of the story. Her previous books were so much more compelling and easier to get hooked into right away. In this story, we have three random characters who are all in New York City for different reasons, but they meet up in Central Park when they are forced together by a shared experience. Freya has lost her voice while recording her debut musical album. Harun is planning to run away from home in order to be with the boy he loves. Nathaniel has arrived in New York with nothing but a backpack after a tragedy leaves him alone in upstate Washington. The novel unfolds over the course of a single day and the narrative switched back and forth between the three main characters' viewpoints. It's a novel of friendship, family, and the courage to be who you want to be.
