In the book I Have Lost My Way, Gayle Forman brings three completely different characters together and binds them under the common theme of loss and depression. As you read each character's individual backstory you not only understand their feelings, but you experience it along with them. You feel the tragedy of loss that each character goes through despite their differences in ethnicity, sexuality, social status, and background. I enjoyed reading how they came together to form a friendship and help each other through some of their darkest moments. As a YA book, I believe that many teens will be able to relate to the characters regardless of the type of loss being experienced.

"They may be complete strangers, with different lives and different problems, but there in that examination room they are measuring sadness the same way. They are measuring it in loss."
