If you told me about these characters, I would not as a rule think I want to read about them. It just sounds so "young" and full of the modern generation of people concerned about their phone lives and the fakery and phoniness of YouTube clips.

But I got really involved in these characters and what happens to them, when this odd trio is thrown together by happenchance in Manhattan.

Probably the famous young singer who is trying to build on her online fame would be the one to most make me think that I couldn't get into her character, but the descriptions of her family, the little betrayals she faces, makes me understand her.

And I also like the other two characters, a young former jock who now feels like an oddity, a "feral" person, and a gay Muslim immigrant from Pakistan.

There is a lot of wry, low-key humor, and it's a short read that zips along.
