I don't often read young adult stories but I have heard a lot of good feedback about Gayle Forman so I was excited for the chance to read an advanced copy of her new book. It was a quick read with deeply intense characters.
I believe today's young adult will connect well with the characters and I thought their stories were very relevant and current. The three main characters were complicated but very likeable. The story takes place over the course of one day leading up to a very intense conclusion. The flashback scenes, although involving three different people over multiple time periods, were seamless and easy to follow.
The cornerstone events of the character's lives are hearbreaking but their losses are common enough that a young reader might be going through a similar situation and will easily relate. I thought the ending was satisfying and very thought provoking. I can see why Gayle Forman has such a wonderful reputation in the young adult community. I will absolutely be recommending this book to others.
