This book was giving me Black Swan vibes and I completely ate it up! Race, privilege and wealth play a huge part when trying to achieve success, especially for Lauren Mesny. Lauren is clearly the best ballerina in the Parisian ballet but due to racism and individual biases, Lauren’s white counterparts flaws are regularly overlooked. I loved reading about what people are willing to sacrifice to make it to where they want to be in life. This story also had real life elements when I think about the story of Robert Johnson who allegedly sold his soul at a Mississippi Crossroads in exchange for unique musical gifts. Even if we think about Hollywood, we are that people are willing to sacrifice their own morals for what they want and it’s a sad thing to see but it’s reality. I think Jamison did a really amazing job with the plot of this story and I definitely had to add it to my TBR!
