Interesting But Not Fully Attention Grabbing

I liked the writing style of this author and I could tell a lot of care and research was put into how ballet schools in Paris function. I understood the gist of the story which is that Laure is a professional ballerina who is better than the rest but still gets treated like she's not because of the color of her skin. This was more lighter speculative than horror. I liked the comparison between selling your soul for an activity/career to literally selling your soul to the devil. But I started getting lost some point in the middle just because this was so slow moving of a story. The side characters weren't very developed for me to care what was happening to them. The ending was interesting but I know sure what direction a sequel would go in. I did do a great bit of reading by listening to the audiobook and I think that made a difference in my enjoyment of the story. I found myself just wanting a little bit more excitement and darkness like the cover suggests.
