The story in this book is an important one. The strife of people of color and how, many times, they are unfairly pushed aside. It also details the prejudices against those with a “less than reputable” upbringing. All of this is important for everyone to know about.
However, if you don’t know about ballet, this may prove to be a difficult read. I found myself looking up a lot of words in relation to the ballet and French culture. I think if I could have avoided that, it may have been easier to read. Alas, I don’t have a background in ballet or French, so it pulled me out of the story some.
The supernatural part of the story and the twist are both interesting. I, again, had a hard time understanding where this place was and how all these people stumbled upon it though. But it begs the question of what would YOU trade your soul for? Would you be able to continue after one deal? Or would you give yourself over for bargains?
