The first thing that stood out to me about this book was the beautiful writing style. Almost every chapter included phrases that I wanted to copy down to remember. It's probably a different experience to read this book as a dancer and actually understand all the details, but that knowledge is definitely not a requirement to appreciate the book and I enjoyed the unexpected opportunity to receive some education about the world of ballet. I also loved the complexity of the characters, especially among the ballerinas. It was interesting to see how different they could be despite having the same passion and goals. As the plot unfolds and you begin to see the destructive side of that passion, you can't help but ask yourself how far you would go to reach your own goals. It becomes frighteningly easy to see how an all-encompassing devotion to the arts could lead to horror.
