I appreciate the author's extensive trigger warning passage before the first impression even begins because after seeing the bloody cover, they confirmed this novel is going to be too dark for me to read. After reading the first impression, I am filled with anxiety and anger at the lack of compassion the judges have for the dancers and how harsh they are treated and how hard the dancers are on themselves--this tells me the author can pull all the emotions out of readers and I do look for writing that can do this for me.
