Cautiously Intrigued

As someone who really enjoys stories about ambitious characters obsessed with success and stardom (especially when it involves ballet) this one intrigued me right away. The cover is striking, and the blurb hooked me in immediately. However, I have to admit that the first chapter didn't leave much of an impression. It was kind of boring, and the protagonist seems to be a bit flat as a character. I don't really get the impression that shes desperate to succeed, and she seems more apathetic to the audition (I think thats what it was?) then anything. The first chapter seemed more dedicated to boring exposition then establishing her as a character, when I feel like there should have been a better balance of both.

But! The concept still interests me and I'm not willing to make a blanket statement about the entire book from only reading the first chapter. I've read plenty of books with wonky first chapters that I've ended up loving, and the blurb really makes it seem like this book is right up my alley. I'd really like to get my hands on it!
