Appealing to Entity to Fill Void
I like that we get a different setting -ballet- for a story in young adult lit in general but specifically for selling their soul- usually they sell it to be a musical star. Right off the back the way it deals with race & racism does not feel heavy handed. The dynamics with race that were set up are going to be interesting. There is already -to me- message about the fact that Laura has to strike a bargain with a entity to have success because no matter her work/talent she is always going to be dismissed because she is Black.
The story feel like it is going to be gory. I am interested in the entity: Is it going to require others blood as a sacrifice? It obviously assumedly gave Josephine a leg up (if it did not that is messed up to assume). How is Laure going to get out of this deal (will she get out of the deal)? In the synopsis it says she is going to descend to "mystifying underworld" does that mean we are going to see the lair of beast?
