5+ stars. This book just held me emotionally hostage all day. I started it this morning. I genuinely loved the protagonist of this story. She's well written, deeply developed, witty and funny, flawed, and utterly real. Just when life is going perfectly for Margaret, a brand new engagement and job, her moron of a doesn't even have his pilot's license boyfriend manages to almost kill both of them during a night flight. He walks away without a scratch, she doesn't walk away from anything. Now begins her long recuperation in the hospital and weeks and months of determining how much damage was done to her body and how much mobility she'll gain back. In the midst of this, she's dealing with her super messy family, an estranged sister that comes charging back in just when she needs her with a family altering secret, an overly controlling critical mother, and the fiancé who was the cause of all this turning out to be an utter shit. Enter Ian, the growly, scowly Scottish physical therapist with the perfect ass. Calling this book a romance novel would be pigeonholing it in a way that would be a complete disservice, but a large part of the book is the relationship between "Maggie" and Ian and coming from someone who doesn't even really like romance novels, it's the best part! This book was a beautiful, fast, poignant and happy tragedy. Absolutely great read!
