The exploration of resilience and the potential for growth after loss in How to Walk Away is undeniably poignant. The portrayal of Margaret's journey to find her own version of happiness is both empowering and heartwarming. The story ultimately resonates as a testament to the indomitable human spirit, reminding us of our capacity to find strength even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

The heart of this novel lies in Margret’s journey after surviving a tragic plane crash. Not realizing how badly the accident left her, Margaret faces issues with accepting her new disability. Feeling though she has lost everything, Margaret downspirals into negativity and lacks motivation to get better. Center skillfully portrays the rawness of grief, capturing the shattered fragments of a life Margaret once envisioned.

The supporting characters lend depth and dimension to the story. Each character has their own flaws that both aid and hinder Margaret’s own growth. Her mother, father, finance, and even her physical therapist, Ian. In the case of slow-burning romance, Center did an excellent job as it offers a counterpoint to the weight of Margaret’s depressing challenges.

I absolutely love Katherine Center books because she has a way with developing characters who deal with trauma and find the light at the end of the tunnel. Her characters are always so real and vivid. Worth a read if you are looking for a fast paced (trauma induced) love story.
