Sometimes a book comes along that makes you see tragedy differently. This book was it for me. How to Walk Away was a tear jerker from the beginning.

Margaret has always had major issues with flying. From a young girl, she would worry about a plane crashing when she went somewhere.. Even so, she couldn't pin point her issue but she really didn't want to fly. Then her boyfriend Chip(who is of course close to his pilot license) convinced her to fly with him one night. He takes her up and they have a very romantic time plus he even proposes to her. She is elated, that is until the weather shifts and Chip can no longer control the plane. Margaret can't figure out what is happening but she knows something terrible is about to happen.

This book made me laugh as Margaret learns to live on after the crash. It made me speed read so I could find out what would happen next. The story was extremely true to life and there was no sugar coating over the characters circumstances which I found very refreshing.

"This was the feeling I'd been afraid of---but it was so much worse than I'd feared. It was like a part of the old me, sweet and vulnerable and shockingly innocent, had died."

"I would never tell you that the life you wanted couldn't have been exactly as great as you planned. But you have to live the life you have. You have to find inspiration in the struggle, and pull joy out of the hardship."

Katherine Center writes such beautiful prose, it was easy to get lost in her writing and the journey her words took you on. This is my first book by the author but I plan on reading everything she wrote immediately. A journey of faith, hope, sorrow and struggle, How to Walk Away was my favorite book I've read this year so far.
