Honestly, the enemies-turned-lovers trope is my all-time favourite, although some writers really can't seem to get it right. I'm glad that wasn't the case here. In this case, they are not really enemies, but more like academic rivals. Our protagonist Shay has to come top of her class to win the Brockton Scholarship, which gives her a full ride to one of the best colleges in the country, but she's only second in the GPA rankings, first being Ana (our love interest/nemesis).In order to beat her, she takes part in this year's musical, but little does she know that she's in for more trouble than she bargained for, as her teacher isn't what she thought.

The main point of the book is how her teacher tries to manipulate her into getting into a relationship with her because of his connections and the scholarship opportunity he could give her.

The magic system in the book was so well adapted that you could see it was an everyday thing in her life.
