Shay is a junior at T.K. Anderson Magical Magnet School, working her hardest to win a scholarship and entrance into her dream college. Her passion is potions and she will do whatever it takes to get into college and boost her family's position. When the drama teacher, and sponsor of the scholarship fund, asks her to try out for the school play, she feels like she has to or she will destroy her chances at the scholarship. As time goes on, Shay starts to feel uncomfortable with the attention the teacher is giving her and she starts to wonder what is really going on.

This book covers a lot of heavy topics including racism and sexual harassment, weaved into a fun story about magic. I loved reading the descriptions of the magical stunts in the play and man would love to see that in a movie. Shay was a strong female lead and while it took her time to find her courage, I really liked how she handled the situations she ran into during this story. I really enjoyed the writing style and the interactions between the characters. There was a lot of talk in the book about being true to yourself and not compromising your values. This is an excellent, diverse novel and I definitely recommend it.
