Thank you to Penguin Teen for an arc and BookishFirst for a finished copy of this one!

Shay's whole life has been geared toward getting the Brockton scholarship and getting into Willington College to get her magical license. But when Mr. Brockton strongly hints that joining the school musical would help with her application, she walks a fine line between doing what she needs to to get the scholarship and being taken advantage of.

This book was so good but so hard to read at times. The teacher being a groomer and predator was super hard to read about and honestly very very upsetting. I was so mad that so many people just acted like it was normal for him to give certain girls special treatment and I wanted to hex him (lol). Really glad that stuff was dealt with because I was maddddddd.

Shay is such a great character. I love her gifted kid burnout struggle. So relatable. But Ana was the real MVP of this for me. I love her so so much and would seriously do a lot to get an entire book about her. She's amazing!

I love the musical theater setting of this one and the magic is soooo good. I love how practical everything is and the descriptions of potions Shay brewed and everything. This book made me very happy.

Honestly loved this one so much! The one actual complaint I had was that calling the females witches and the males wizards felt super binary and unnecessary to me. There is nothing wrong with having a male witch be called a witch.
