This is classed as YA book, and I think it would be age appropriate for high school kids. It is a love story between two girls and a tale of standing up for what is right. Shay and Ana are both competing for a full ride scholarship to a Ivy League magic school. There are some funny moments where potions go wrong, but most of the story is about the budding romance between Shay and Ana.
Shay is manipulated by the drama teacher, who is also on the scholarship committee, into participating in the school musical. The teacher crosses the student/teacher line and Shay realizes just what is at stake and how this teacher has used students in the past with the promise of being awarded scholarship.
The interactions Shay has with her parents, who are accepting of her orientation, and their support of her is heartwarming.
This really isn't a deep or enlightening story, but an easy read about doing what is right and believing in yourself.
