Right off the bat I was captivated by the magical world Shay lives in and her rivalry with Ana at school. The rich world the author created is easy to immerse yourself in. Add to that the intrigue of a magical high school student fighting for a scholarship, Mr. B casts a suspicious shadow on the whole process. I must know what he's really up to!
