Aislynn Brophy has created an intriguing world where magic co-exists with non-magic. I appreciate that the magical aspects of Shayna's life are integrated with other more "typical" teen issues - academic performance (even overachieving), college stress, friendships/rivalries, evolving relationships with parents, race and diversity, etc. There's a strong YA feel to the writing and content, but it also feels contemporary (yes, more strong women of color protagonists and LGBTQ+ representation please!) and magically unique. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds and immersing myself deeper into this version of our world.
