We open up on Shayna brewing a potion. Right off the bat, I love the diction/character voice. It flows well, and it immerses me. We get a great sense on what the character, Shayna, is like. She's hardworking, possibly overworked, and she's witty. This feels like something I can devour within a good few hours. We get a nice background on her family. They support her, yet she does have conflict with them like a lot of families. The representation is fantastic. This book seems like a breath of fresh air, and I am so eager to continue!
