I liked the magical aspects!

This excerpt certainly introduced a lot of interesting concepts. The magic was enticing, the society seems to be dystopian, and racism will clearly be a relevant theme, all of which I look forward to. The only thing that I didn't particularly care for was the foreshadowing of a teacher taking advantage of the MC. Depending on how it plays out, that storyline is not typically one of my favorites, but I'm still curious about the rest of the novel!
