As a book for middle readers, I enjoyed how it hit the ground running. In the first 20 pages, I know that the feisty heroine is a nonconformist who can’t help but follow her passion despite deep traditions and pressures. Amidst a lovely setting, the story weaves in and out between reality and magic and draws from Roman mythology as its foundation.
