Although I’m not usually drawn to books with magical elements, this excerpt did manage to draw me in. I particularly liked the vivid, lively descriptions of the scenery, sounds, and smells - the scene came to life and made me think this would make a great animated film. I was, however, disappointed to learn that the author doesn’t have an Italian background; it makes the overly frequent use of Italian words seem pretentious.
