Greek mythology meets modern-day Italy where people with magic live among those with no magic. The MC's family is a long line of magical healers, and the MC also has healing magic. There are Italian words, but nothing too out of place since through context we learn their meaning. We do get a sense of mystery as the MC is hiding something *alive* within her bag and what that something is, reveals itself by the end of the chapter. I think the reveal would've had a greater impact if we knew how her teacher would react, or if the MC did more to hide it. I was a bit confused about how they have a church, yet they're linked to Apollo and the other ancient Greek myth characters. Do the magic users worship them or are they Christian? Not sure how that works. And since this is a middle-grade book, won't young readers also be confused?
