The world building is incredible. It was a perfect mix of modern day Italian vibes with mythical creatures and magic. I was hooked immediately. I love that the text doesn't shy away from unusual words or vocabulary and leans into the world that is being created. It was absolutely gripping, and I think it can be appreciated by adults and children alike. I know at least one middle grade and one adult reader who will devour this novel!
I absolutely love the set up so far: a girl going against what's expected of her to make true and lasting change and do what she loves? It's the perfect message to send to young readers. The world already feels so rich in just the 20 page excerpt.
The cover art is stunning and absolutely indicative of what lies between the pages of the book. I haven't been this excited to delve into a read in a long time. I absolutely cannot wait to read more to see the journey that Giada and Picolina end up going on to fight for what's right. The writing is rich, warm, and engaging.
