How to Find What You're Not Looking For by Veera Hiranandani follows Ariel Goldberg a twelve-year-old Jewish girl. The novel is set 1960s and during a changing time period. It was interesting seeing how the author showed change and the time period through the eyes of a twelve-year-old. I tend to not read middle grade or young adult but found this one was well-written and interesting. I think it did a good job of coving the time period in a way that a middle-grade reader would connect with and I would have enjoyed this one when I was that age. This one would be a good novel to read in the classroom. I was not a fan of the 2nd person narration but I still thought the novel was well-written. I recommend checking out this recent/upcoming release if you enjoy middle-grade and historical fiction. Thank you, bookish first and publisher for the free sample of the novel!
