The way the book encompasses characters from different backgrounds, especially a woman that is Jewish and a boy that is Indian, is so fascinating. You rarely see these two different cultures intwine. To see them together in a world where their love is seen as strange. While the book isn't really based on Ariel sister, it is so good to see that there is a chance for interracial marriage in this society. Everyone knows that interracial marriage is allowed like there is no law against it, however it's still looked down upon especially in certain cultures. To see Ariels's sister have to deal with her relationship with her husband as well as her family challenges the ideals we hold society today. Moving onto Ariel, she's only 12. She has to deal with this wide array of issues while still being a child. A child takes on the world. How crazy is that?
