Tackles serious themes through the lens of a child
The narration in the second person was a little jarring at first, but it really sets the perspective and tone of the story. Set during the civil rights era, the narrator's voice accurately captures the wide-eyed innocence and confusion of a child when exposed to the concepts of prejudice and racism.
I'm not the biggest fan of the cover. It's visually cluttered and gives off the feel of a YA book. In contrast, the narrator's voice sounded much younger, placing it safely outside the general age range of YA.
