Serious but not Overwhelming

First off, great topic to bring up in a middle grade book. It's not really appreciated to put something as serious as racism and prejudice into a book for someone that young. However, I'm all for this book and the potential it has for it's readers. Even though I'm not huge on it being in 2nd person, it really can help young readers understand what life was like as an 11 year old at that time.
