When reading the synopsis of this novel, I was immediately intrigued by the story, since there is not much historical fiction written for middle grade readers. This story in particular is unique because it takes place during the time period after the Supreme Court has struck down the law banning interracial marriage in the United States. I liked the easy flow of the story but was not the biggest fan of the second person point of view that the author uses. It took some time getting used to this point of view but once I did, I was invested in the characters and I admired how the author dealt with important issues such as race and prejudices in a way that was understandable for young kids. I like the cover because it is very colorful and creative. I am looking forward to reading more of this book so that I can discover what happens to each of the characters.
