How It Feels to Float is a beautiful, heartbreaking, difficult subject matter type of book. Fox’s writing is poetic and lyrical. The fact that the author deals with mental illness in real life is what made this book even better, because she knows it. The mental illness covered in this book was spot on and didn’t romanticize or disrespect it in any way. Biz is such a relatable character for me and I wish I could know her in real life. I want to give her a hug and let her know I’m listening. I felt the exploration of self and sexuality was also done well and would relate to anyone going through the same. I think the bonus points for this book would be that it’s Australian, which breaks the US and England mold of YA books.
