One of the things I love the most in this First Look is the cutting between the characters in the interrogation rooms and the jumping between the interrogation room and Amir explaining how he ended up in room. I enjoy stories where you watch the whole thing come together over a period of time and see how things are connected.
I also really enjoyed the style of writing the interrogations and how you don't see what the officers are saying. I also like the style of writing and how it's written like a conversation; it's just Amir and his family telling their perspectives of the last month and Amir's absence.
I'm curious to see how the story progresses as a lot of information was divulged in this First Look and the book is over 200 pages long. I also really enjoyed how Arvin Ahmadi managed to get a lot of information across in a manner which was not overwhelming or confusing.
I also very much enjoyed how Ahmadi showed each member of the family's personalities in their respective interrogations. The father doesn't want to answer any questions as he clearly knows this is unfair and has dealt with the situation before, the mother simply wants to go home and discuss everything that has happened as a family, the sister knows the situation is unjust and wants to do something about it (as seen by her trying to record the situation), and Amir is simply trying to explain that he ran away because he's gay, not because he's a terrorist.
I'm very keen to read the rest of this book and am looking forward to the 22nd of September in order to add it to my TBR and read it as soon as I can.
