I cried. I love this book so much. It’s a book about judging people, expectations, letting go of all of that, change and figuring out who you are. I love that between the story we get to hear Amir and his family speak about how they feel and see the story from all different angles.

The world is the same as ours but Amir’s reaction to being an out gay man shows how much our perceptions and feelings color the way we see life. He romanticizes his time in Rome until he realized who he is and how he fits in.

It’s amazing journey of self discovery and romantic discovery. The characters are bright, funny, energetic and accepting. They take this teenager who feels so out of place and brings him into their world.
