Amir is a Muslim who fears coming out. His family is described as being conservative and his worry is for being cast out by them. When he learns that someone plans to out him, he takes off for Rome just before his graduation.
This book fell flat for me for a few reasons: some of the story lines felt unrealistic; themes that were highlighted in the summary aren't as prominent throughout the book; the build up to the detention and the reason for the detention did were not congruent.
It should be known that I am not part of the Muslim, Iranian, or LGBTQ+ community so I cannot fully say whether any of the stories would be realistic or not. However, I was not a fan. To me, this book held a lot of promise and could have been executed better.
