A masterfully told coming of age/coming out/ and how to handle yourself in the event of a homeland security threat assessment interview.

Amir leaves the day of his highschool graduation after a classmate threatens to tell his parents about his secret relationship. Unsure of where to go or what to do Amir flees and through the course of the interview the reader finds out if he hadn't met Jackson and if he hadn't seen a sign for gelato, he never would have ended up in the Italian countryside, nor would he have been found arguing with his parents on a plane home.

The pace is amazing. Told through interviews with Amir and his family, it is clear from each interaction the personalities of his parents and sister. His dad's sections are short with little information, his mom over-explains, his sister is angry with her parents and Amir... poor Amir is overwhelemd.

I can't wait to dig in to the rest of the book and share this with the teens I work with.
