An important perspective on pride

Whenever I have the chance to read a book that has a main character who is a part of the LGBTQ community, I immediately swoop. I found this story extremely unique because most of the stories I read deal with mostly white main characters from a generic American setting, while this story is told abroad and with a Muslim main character. It’s so refreshing for stories to be told from non-“typical” voices. I am very happy that the author was able to write about how a Muslim boy had to deal with being considered a terrorist and the fall-out of coming out to a not-so accepting family. Many people are too afraid to take on these issues in media but it is so important that they are because this happens! Maybe not being taken in by strange gay men in Rome, but having unaccepting families due to religion and culture as well as biases against you because of the color of your skin. Great read!
