This book is about a high school student called Amir Azadi. He is keeping a secrecy from his very religious family, he is gay. He and his family are Muslim and Amir said being gay and a Muslim did not go together. He is worried about what his parents would say if he came out to them, so he has been keeping it a secret until he meets a boy at school, Jackson.

These two boys, Jake and Ben, caught Amir and Jackson and are threatening to tell Amir’s parents if he doesn’t pay them. Amir does not have the money to pay them so he gets on a plane to New York. Although, Amir has his passport in his pocket, he dreams of leaving America and going somewhere different, that’s when he picks Rome.

His whole family end up in an interrogation room at customs because they are from Iran and Amir acting out of the ordinary on the plane. Customs thought they were terrorists because of their ethnicity.

I read the first 35 pages of this book from BookishFirst and I am excited to read the read of it. It was a captivating read and those first few pages made me want to read so much more. I love how the book deals with a somewhat ancient taboo subject, that is becoming more common now. Also, it is based on a true story, so I think it will help other people struggling with the same or similar issues.

I loved how the book cut between each character and the chapters were short which made reading it go fast. I also love the writing style of this author, he makes the characters seem amusing and lovable. I would love to hear more about Amir’s story and how the events build up. It is a promising read which I think a lot of people will love.
