Hits all the right marks for LGBT, BIPOC, fun, and cute
The cover of How it All Blew Up is clean graphics and shows you a boy that is definitely going through something. It follows the current format of being recognizable as possibly LBGT just from a glance.
I liked the format of the short bites of interrogation from the perspectives of each family member. You get a good snapshot of the POV of each and what their personality will be. I love the MC's voice and methods of presenting his emotions about his life and troubles.
The writing is witty and light-hearted while tackling a subject that many youth experience and aren't sure how to deal. This gives young, Muslim, gay kids a chance to know they are not alone. It will let these kids know they are normal and maybe it will all be okay. I like that the book is based on real events.
Can't wait to read the rest of it!
