Well, I rarely--like maybe once or twice a year (out of 50-80 books a year) read YA. And the ones I do read are usually fairytale retellings. So this isn't even close to my preferred genres, which are Christian romance, historical romance, women's fiction, and regency (if it's particular authors.) This coming of age story isn't my thing.
The first person POV has a strong voice and distinct personality that allows the reader to 'get in the main characters head' and he does it really well. Crisp tight writing with a witty flavor.
