Not my typical read, but it's definitely clear right out the gate that this author was ready to explore a lot of tough concepts with a surprising touch of humor. Certainly racism and islamophobia as well as homophobia are clearly going to come into play from the opening, but the author manages to weave in some humor somehow. I think the main character comes off as very likable - he definitely seems like a character you want to root for. This is not the typical genre I go for, but based on the first read I have a sense that this would be pretty universally entertaining while also managing to explore those challenging topics I mentioned and (I'm guessing) do a good job of educating and shedding some light on them as well.
