Guy Raz has made a name for himself in the podcasting world through his wildly successful NPR series "How I Built This," in which he interviews various founders, innovators, and entrepreneurs on their thought/work processes. As someone who spends a lot of time commuting and listening to podcasts, I first stumbled across Raz's show through his 2017 interview with the late Kate Spade. Raz has a talent for connecting with his guests and presenting the interesting narratives around their successes. Since I had already listened to many of the podcast interviews, I was a bit concerned that the book would simply be a repeat of those interviews. However, it seems like Raz and Nils Parker have created new, original content while also featuring lessons learned from past guests. Some of the advice for burgeoning entrepreneurs, especially around ideation, seems fairly obvious or straightforward. At the same time, it was very helpful and inspiring to read about real-world applications and startups that succeeded. The writing feels very approachable, engaging, and true to Raz's speaking voice.
