I would recommend this book to those who enjoy Young Adult fantasy romances as well as dark academia. I really enjoyed the concept of this book, however, at times the story fell a bit flat. It seemed to be a bit longer than necessary. The magic system is quite intriguing with the forbidden dark magic. I look forward to exploring these magical systems in subsequent books. Quell and Jordan’s relationship had a slow burn enemies to lovers vibe. I really enjoyed the scenes with Quell and Jordan training her magic. There was a bit of disconnect between points of view, mainly with Yagrin. The politics between the houses was interesting and again, I cannot wait to explore this further in future books. This is a true Young Adult book meaning it was pretty clean and I would not hesitant recommending it to young readers. I look forward to reading the next book.
