I wanted to Love House of Marionne because I was curious to how she would combine modern Black debutante society, give Bridgerton vibes, give SJM, and give Leigh Bardugo. Having read J Elle's previous series I wasn't sure since that vibe was more Wakandaesque. It starts off fun and decently paced but never quite hit the mark for me. I wanted so much more explained and it just felt like pieces of different YA fantasies blended together without much thought put behind how the magic system is supposed to operate. And there was a lot of stuff at the school that felt like unnecessary filler. and kept taking me out of the momentum of the story. In short at times I was very bored with it. I also wasn't feeling much chemistry between Quell and Jordan and this type of story is only made better when you can feel the love the characters have for each other.
