Magical
I’ll be honest, I only picked up this book because Ali Hazelwood told me to. The cover felt pretty generic and the synopsis felt like a boarding school hunger games. Wow was I wrong.
This book was enchanting. Quell was a captivating lead. I wish I knew more about her magic, but it was so fun to watch her discover how to exist in a world that wasn’t made for her. She was powerful and dramatic and so cool.
I was very much expecting Stephanie Garber vibes and this book read way below that to me, but it was still fun! I think it was struggling a little, since it was trying to be dark academia but still be YA.
I do really appreciate how much girl power this book gave off. It was so empowering and impressive. There was so much mystery and deception that I didn’t think there would be a lot of chance for stand out empowerment, but the book pulled it off.
I do think there was some missing character development and left with a lot of questions, but hopefully a sequel is in store for that
